One of the most frequently asked questions we get about our Flaked Oats is, ‘do they cook the same as other oats’? Always, our answer is YES! And with porridge being so common, we thought we’d give you a foundation recipe to reference.
Growing up, my mom taught me to cook porridge based on how it ‘feels’ when you stir the pot. Adding oatmeal was never something I had measured or thought about; rather, I just added until I felt that certain level of resistance when stirring. Because of this, it’s taken a little longer for me to narrow down the ratios, but nonetheless, we have a surefire recipe now!

In a small-medium pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
Once in a rolling boil, add 1-1.5 cups of flaked oats and a dash of salt.
Bring water back to a boil, stirring continuously while boiling for 4-5 minutes.
Remove the pot from heat, cover and let sit for 10 minutes.
Remove the lid and let sit for 3-5 minutes to thicken.
Serve warm, topped with your preference of milk, brown sugar and cinnamon. Or perhaps some fruit, maple syrup, chocolate chips, raisins or pecans, etc.
